When to go? It is available throughout the year, however we'd recommend avoiding the hottest and wettest months between October and May.

1 night Rivertrees Country Inn, Arusha

Upon arrival to Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met by a private guide and driven to the leafy suburbs of Arusha to relax for the rest of your day and prepare for the start of your safari tomorrow.

2 nights Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp, Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast you will be picked up by your private guide and depart from Arusha. Your destination is the stunning Ngorongoro Crater rim and on the way you will visit Lake Manyara National Park for your first safari experience and picnic lunch.

You have a full day with your private guide to explore the wildlife spectacle that is the Ngorongoro Crater.

2 night Great Rift Valley Trek

You will be driven to Empakai Crater to the east of the Ngorongoro to meet your guide team and begin your trekking program. The first day includes a gentle trek into the Empakai valley, where flamingoes are often seen, before spending your first night under canvas at Empakai Camp.

This first night of the two-night trek is spent at Empakai Camp.

A day hiking through the rift valley

The trip can be tailored to your fitness levels, however, usually today involves a 16km hike, accompanied by your Maasai guides, following a route through picturesque Maasai villages and rolling hills. Lunch can be taken on route as a picnic or a late lunch can be had upon arrival at Leonotis Camp. In the late afternoon a hike up to a nearby viewpoint is highly recommended and a great place for sundowners!

The second night of the trek is spent at Leonotis Camp in the Great Rift Valley.

Hike to Lake Natron Camp

The final section of hiking has two options of a shorter hike or a longer more strenuous option, right along the rift wall. The views are spectacular with the active volcano Oldoinyo Lengai dominating the foreground. Once on the Rift Valley floor you will be picked up and driven to Lake Natron Camp in time for well-deserved sundowners.

2 nights Lake Natron Camp, Lake Natron

Enjoy two nights to relax or explore as you wish at the stunning Lake Natron Camp.

A full day at Lake Natron Camp

On your doorstep to experience there are well-preserved human footprints left in the mud between 5,000 and 19,000 years ago, up to 2.5 million flamingoes (between November and April), waterfalls, a natural pool, mountain biking trails and some stunning sundowner spots.

2 night The Footsteps of Mankind Trek

After breakfast depart from Lake Natron Camp and start your trek to Sanjan. The hike this morning is up the Rift Valley, following the migration routes of the Maasai and their cattle as they move to find pasture. Once on top of the Rift Valley you trek to meet the vehicle and transfer across the vast Salei plains to Sangan Gorge to your camp for the night.

The first night of The Footsteps of Mankind Trek is spent in the remote Sanjan Camp.

Hike to Piyaya Camp

Sanjan Camp is set at the base of the Gol mountains and faces east, which affords a stunning sunrise! Bush coffee is served right from the fire and after a filling breakfast depart with your Maasai guides along the sides of the Sanjan gorge to your next camp around 10km on foot and 4km by vehicle.

Piyaya is renowned for being a haven for early man, because of year-round fresh water springs. Walking with Maasai warriors, in places very few have been, you are able to explore the rolling hills and secret caves of this fascinating place. If the Great Wildebeest Migration is in this area there are also options for game drives.

3 nights Kirurumu Central Serengeti

From Piyaya Camp you will be taken to meet your safari guides for the next part of your journey. Visit “one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world” at Olduvai Gorge on the way to the Central Serengeti, where you will spend the final 3 nights of your trip.

2 full days on safari in the Serengeti

You have a 2 full days on safari with your private guides exploring this wildlife-rich area of the Serengeti.

Fly back to Kilimanjaro

Finally your epic adventure comes to an end with a flight back to Kilimanjaro Airport to meet your onward international flight arrangements.
