Bio:

Leonotis Adventures provides something a little (read a lot) different to the regular Northern Tanzania safari circuit. As one of the most popular safari destinations on the continent, so often itineraries will follow a similar route from Arusha, through Tarangire and Lake Manyara, into the Ngorongoro Crater and then finish in the Serengeti.  With many thousands of people following this familiar route every year, it can be hard to imagine there is room for something as exploratory, as unique and as exciting as the multi-day activity trips offered by Leonotis.

Set up by the indomitable Åke Lindstrom, an experienced trekking guide and mountain biker, Leonitis offers two main four-night treks, using the beautiful Lake Natron Camp as a base.

The first trek that you might reach geographically if you are coming from Arusha, is the Great Rift Valley Trek. It starts east of the Ngorongoro Crater at the Empakaai Crater and then continues down through the Great Rift Valley via two specially selected overnight camping locations, before finishing at Lake Natron Camp.

The Footsteps of Mankind Trek starts from Lake Natron Camp and heads east through the Sanjan Gorge and Gol Mountains to Olduvai Gorge, which is known as “one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world ”. Bump into Maasai tribesmen, search for ancient stone tools and, if timed correctly, even see the Great Migration.

All treks are privately organised for your group, moderate fitness is required but itineraries can be tailored to suit your interests and fitness levels. These treks can be shortened, lengthened, combined, reversed - you name it.
