01
Carefully selected suppliers
We work with suppliers who tread more lightly on the earth. In the planning of every bespoke trip there are lots of choices to be made. We will always favour those suppliers who offer best-in-class service, not only in terms of experience and reliability, but also in their responsibility toward staff, local communities and the surrounding environment.
02
Slower travel
Naturally, the part of your trip that will produce the highest emissions will likely be travelling to and from your destinations, particularly if you are taking long-haul flights.
We are strong proponents of travelling less but for longer. This may mean a one-month adventure a year, rather than two, fortnight-long annual holidays, or visiting fewer locations per trip to reduce travel legs. Not only does this reduce emissions but it also gives a more in-depth experience, a chance to build relationships and explore more deeply!
03
Ethical wildlife interactions
There are very few examples where we would recommend interacting with animals at all, beyond through your camera lens or just your eyes. Even at a safe distance on safari, wildlife can be agitated by the number of vehicles or behaviour of some guides. We carefully assess our suppliers when choosing who to work with and it is one of the reasons we champion more remote areas and place such importance on guiding.
04
Carbon off-setting
While carbon off-setting has received mixed reviews in the past, there are a number of reputable companies, for example Sustainable Travel International, that can be used to neutralise certain unavoidable carbon emissions created during a long-haul trip.
The cost to offset a return, economy flight from London to Johannesburg only costs around $40/£32 per person.
Long-haul travel costs carbon. We'll help you to spend it wisely on a trip that supports local people, maintains ecosystems and preserves biodiversity.
05
Activity choices
There are many different activity options on any trip and we will always suggest options which minimise carbon emissions. This could be a walking safari in Zambia, a cycling tour of Victoria Falls or e-boat trip off the coast of Svalbard. Although it might not sound like much, every trip becoming more environmentally friendly adds up to make a significant impact on overall emissions.
06
The path less travelled
We are passionate about championing off-the-beaten-track destinations to provide much needed support and funds to areas and camps that see fewer visitors. From the traveller's point of view, this results in a more personal, wild and unique experience and the knowledge that their stay really makes a difference.
07
Contributing to charities
Many of the suppliers we work with have their own important charity endeavours, which are made possible by their tourism activities. We'd love to chat to you about these to enable you to make a more informed decision on the impact your trip has.

We are also currently exploring links with a chosen few charities that Faran will independently support.
