Bio:
The Ngorongoro Crater in Northern Tanzania is one of the most spectacular and popular safari destinations in Africa. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world's largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. It was formed when a volcano, thought to originally be 4,500-5,800 metres (14,800 to 19,000 feet) high collapsed in on itself 2-3 million years ago. The crater floor that remains is 1,800 metres above sea level and covers an area of around 260 square kilometres as well as being a veritable wildlife eden.
Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp is a high-quality tented camp located on the eastern side of the crater rim. In an area that can be as busy as the Ngorongoro Crater staying just minutes from the descent road to the Crater floor, is best way to get ahead of the crowds.
The ten tented suites and central main area are located in an ancient forest glade and while it doesn't have direct views of the crater it is a peaceful and atmospheric setting. Each meru style tent is raised on a deck which extends to a private seating area with campaign chairs and table. Inside the rooms are cosy and well-appointed, complete with large comfortable beds and luxury linen. The ensuite bathroom is to the rear of the tent with standard facilities including a taste of a truly authentic safari by means of a classic bucket shower.
Visit the camp as part of a privately guided driven itinerary through Northern Tanzania or fly to Lake Manyara Airstrip and enjoy activities with the resident guides.
